CAKE is currently at work on their ninth album due for release during autumn 2025.\nThe band recently contributed a new song —“Hold You (Responsible)” —to the Noise For Now compilation album SONGS FOR SEX\, an artist response to Project 2025. The compilation album supports the importance of standing up for bodily autonomy\, reproductive freedoms and personal privacy. The band was grateful for the chance to fight for reproductive rights for all citizens.\nAdditionally\, ahead of a recent show in San Antonio\, the band stopped by the Texas Public Radio station to record a song for a “Live From the Freight Elevator” session performing the new song titled\, “Billionaire in Space” also set to be included on CAKE’s new album to be released next year. Lead vocalist John McCrea shared that “’Billionaire in Space’ is an observation\, really of all billionaires\, and the economic imbalance that we have been lulled into accepting as the norm. It is a song about being left behind.”

DESCRIPTION:The Rising South season will culminate in a benefit concert and fundraiser headlined by two-time Grammy Award winner Peabo Bryson\, whose legendary voice and artistry have inspired audiences for decades. \nMr. Bryson—recipient of Grammy Awards for “A Whole New World (Aladdin’s Theme)” and “Beauty and the Beast”—will perform a full concert in support of Rising South’s mission.\nPrior to Mr. Bryson’s performance\, local artists and student performers will take the stage\, including a signature musical presentation titled “From Hidden to Crowned\,” which depicts the journey from pain to purpose and triumph over violence.\nThrough this project\, Rising South Literacy School invites the entire community—students\, educators\, artists\, and families—to take part in building a culture of peace\, literacy\, and collective pride.\nABOUT RISING SOUTH LITERARY SCHOOL\nAlthough Rising South officially became a 501(c)(3) organization in late 2022\, and then paused after the loss of its founder\, our commitment to community service extends back more than two decades. Eliminator\, their 1983 album was something of a paradigm shift for ZZ TOP. Their roots blues skew was intact but added to the mix were tech-age trappings that soon found a visual outlet with such tracks as “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs” on the nascent MTV. It was one of the music industry’s first albums to have been certified Diamond\, far beyond Gold and Platinum and a reflection of US domestic sales exceeding 10 million units.\nAs a touring entity\, they’ve been without peer over the past five decades\, having performed before millions of fans on four continents and have been the subject of their own Grammy-nominated documentary titled That Little Ol’ Band From Texas.  The band’s line-up of the bearded Gibbons and Hill and Beard\, who ironically is clean shaven\, remained intact for more than 50 years until Dusty’s passing.  When Dusty temporarily departed the tour in the summer of 2021\, it was a given that Elwood would be the perfect choice to stand in for Dusty until he could return.
