SUMMARY:An Evening with Peabo Bryson
DESCRIPTION:The Rising South season will culminate in a benefit concert and fundraiser headlined by two-time Grammy Award winner Peabo Bryson\, whose legendary voice and artistry have inspired audiences for decades. \nMr. Bryson—recipient of Grammy Awards for “A Whole New World (Aladdin’s Theme)” and “Beauty and the Beast”—will perform a full concert in support of Rising South’s mission.\nPrior to Mr. Bryson’s performance\, local artists and student performers will take the stage\, including a signature musical presentation titled “From Hidden to Crowned\,” which depicts the journey from pain to purpose and triumph over violence.\nThrough this project\, Rising South Literacy School invites the entire community—students\, educators\, artists\, and families—to take part in building a culture of peace\, literacy\, and collective pride.\nABOUT RISING SOUTH LITERARY SCHOOL\nAlthough Rising South officially became a 501(c)(3) organization in late 2022\, and then paused after the loss of its founder\, our commitment to community service extends back more than two decades. Long before obtaining nonprofit status\, we operated as a grassroots volunteer collective\, organizing literacy drives\, mentoring youth\, hosting free arts workshops\, and leading community dialogues on gun violence\, domestic abuse\, and neighborhood revitalization. \nIn February 2023\, we experienced the profound loss of one of our founding organizers\, Phillip Muhammad\, a retired police officer and passionate advocate for violence prevention who worked closely with residents most vulnerable to adverse outcomes. \nHis dedication continues to inspire our mission\, and today Rising South carries forward his legacy by advancing initiatives that promote community safety\, education\, and healing.\nLEARN MORE

SUMMARY:ZZ TOP & Dwight Yoakam: Dos Amigos Tour
DESCRIPTION:Rock and country legends ZZ TOP & Dwight Yoakam unite for the Dos Amigos Tour\, playing Huntsville’s Orion Amphitheater on Saturday\, April 18. \nDATE AND TIMES\nSaturday\, April 18\, 2026 \nApollo South Open: 5 PM\nDoors Open: 5:30 PM\nShow Time: 7 PM \n“That Little Ol’ Band From Texas” has been at it for well over a half century\, delivering rock\, blues and boogie on the road and in the studio to millions of devoted fans.\nWith iconography as distinctive as their sound\, ZZ TOP is virtually synonymous with beards\, hotrod cars\, spinning guitars and that magic keychain\, all of which transcend geography and language.\nIt was in Houston in the waning days of 1969 that ZZ TOP coalesced from the core of two rival bands\, Billy Gibbons’ Moving Sidewalks and Frank Beard and Dusty Hill’s American Blues. Their third album\, 1973’s Tres Hombres\, catapulted them to national attention with the hit “La Grange\,” still one of the band’s signature pieces today. Eliminator\, their 1983 album was something of a paradigm shift for ZZ TOP. Their roots blues skew was intact but added to the mix were tech-age trappings that soon found a visual outlet with such tracks as “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs” on the nascent MTV. It was one of the music industry’s first albums to have been certified Diamond\, far beyond Gold and Platinum and a reflection of US domestic sales exceeding 10 million units.\nAs a touring entity\, they’ve been without peer over the past five decades\, having performed before millions of fans on four continents and have been the subject of their own Grammy-nominated documentary titled That Little Ol’ Band From Texas.  The band’s line-up of the bearded Gibbons and Hill and Beard\, who ironically is clean shaven\, remained intact for more than 50 years until Dusty’s passing.  When Dusty temporarily departed the tour in the summer of 2021\, it was a given that Elwood would be the perfect choice to stand in for Dusty until he could return. But Dusty’s return was not to be\, and Elwood continues to handle the bass duties for the band now and into the future.\nThe elements that keep ZZ TOP fresh\, enduring and above the transitory fray can be summed up in the three words of the band’s internal mantra: “Tone\, Taste and Tenacity.”. As genuine roots musicians\, they have few peers. Their influences are both the originators of the form – Muddy Waters\, B.B. King\, et al – as well as the British blues rockers and Jimi Hendrix who emerged the generation before ZZ’s ascendance.\nThey have sold hundreds of millions of records over the course of their career\, have been officially designated as Heroes of The State of Texas\, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (by Keith Richards\, no less) and have been referenced in countless cartoons and sitcoms. They are true rock icons and\, against all odds\, they’re really just doing what they’ve always done. ZZ TOP abides!\nABOUT DWIGHT YOAKAM\nDwight Yoakam is a legendary artist whose influence has reshaped the landscape of country music and beyond. With over 25 million albums sold worldwide\, he is a 21-time GRAMMY® nominee and multiple GRAMMY® Award winner. His catalog includes 12 gold albums and 9 platinum or multi-platinum releases\, with five topping Billboard Country Albums chart and 14 landing in the Top 10. Nearly 40 of his singles have charted on Billboard\, including 14 Top 10 hits.\nA recipient of the Americana Music Association’s Artist of the Year award and BMI Country Music’s President’s Award\, the highest honors bestowed by each organization\, Yoakam was also inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019.\nHis latest release\, Brighter Days (Via Records/Thirty Tigers)\, marks his first new album in nine years. Released in November 2024\, the album was written and recorded over a three-year period and features twelve brand-new songs written or co-written by Yoakam. It also includes three seemingly disparate covers: “Keep On the Sunny Side” by the Carter Family\, “Bound Away” by Cake\, and “Time Between” by Chris Hillman of The Byrds\, artfully woven into the same body of work in the unmistakable style that could only be Dwight Yoakam.\nA passionate curator of musical heritage\, Yoakam launched his SiriusXM channel Dwight Yoakam and The Bakersfield Beat: Where Country Went Mod in 2018\, spotlighting the Bakersfield sound and its far-reaching influence. The channel celebrates the Bakersfield sound and those whom it has inspired. Guests have included Post Malone\, Lukas Nelson\, Beck\, Chris Hillman\, Jakob Dylan\, and Jackie DeShannon.\nIn 2016\, Yoakam released Swimmin’ Pools\, Movie Stars…\, on Sugar Hill Records. Featuring a band of bluegrass luminaries\, this album boasts a collection of reinterpreted favorites from his catalogue\, as well as a cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain”. Produced by nine-time GRAMMY® winner Gary Paczosa (Alison Krauss\, Dolly Parton)\, Jon Randall (songwriter of “Whiskey Lullaby”)\, and Yoakam himself\, and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge\, this album reflects the love for bluegrass music that Yoakam developed at an early age in Kentucky and that has inspired him for many years thereafter. In 2018\, Yoakam released two songs\, “Pretty Horses” and “Then Came Monday” (the latter written with Chris Stapleton).\nYoakam is a multifaceted artist\, seamlessly blending his musical talents with a robust acting career. He has appeared in over 40 feature films\, including notable roles in Sling Blade (1996) and Panic Room (2002). He later reunited with Billy Bob Thornton for David E. Kelley’s Amazon series Goliath. Yoakam portrayed Warden Burns in Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky (2017) alongside Channing Tatum and Daniel Craig and took on the role of Howard Polk in Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho (2021). Throughout his career\, he has demonstrated his acting range alongside acclaimed actors such as Jodie Foster\, Tommy Lee Jones\, Jared Leto\, Forest Whitaker\, and Matthew McConaughey.\nWhether on stage\, in the studio\, or on screen\, Yoakam continues to evolve as one of the most compelling and culturally significant artists of our time.
