Athens-Limestone Hospital

Athens-Limestone Hospital in Athens, Alabama, opened in 1951 as a 50-bed facility. In 2007, the hospital became an affiliate of Huntsville Hospital Health System and has since grown to include 71 beds – with plans to add 30 more. Athens-Limestone Hospital has more than 1,000 employees and offers a wide array of services including emergency care, surgery, and specialized treatments. It also has urgent care facilities, a wellness center, home health services, and a sleep center accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Additional services include wound care, cardiovascular care, and mental health services. Athens-Limestone Hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission for quality care and patient safety. It is a BlueCross and BlueShield of Alabama Tier 1 Hospital for quality awareness, patient safety, and financial awareness and has been recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for maternity as well as knee and hip replacement. Given its commitment to safe, effective diagnostic care, Athens-Limestone Hospital has been designated a Lung Cancer Screening Center by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The hospital has also been the recipient of the Alabama Performance Excellence Tier One and Tier Two Awards.
