Known as “Alabama’s Lake City,” Guntersville is located on the southernmost tip of the Tennessee River. Surrounded by 950 miles of shoreline – including Lake Guntersville, the state’s largest lake – residents enjoy boating, water skiing, and fishing. Snead State Community College is in nearby Boaz, while its Workforce and Career Institute – a premier center for career and skills training – is located in Guntersville.

Residents primarily receive their medical care at Marshall Medical Centers, which includes Guntersville’s Marshall Medical North, a 90-bed acute care facility, as well as eight outpatient locations. More specialized care can be found at Huntsville Hospital, UAB Medicine, and Crestwood Medical Center, all less than one hour away.

Lake Guntersville State Park is one of the top things to do in Guntersville – especially once the weather warms up. In addition to the lake, the state park has 36 miles of hiking and biking trails, an 18-hole championship golf course, a zipline, a beach complex, boat ramps, and much more. Anglers won’t want to miss the opportunity to catch big bass on Lake Guntersville. Meanwhile, the Guntersville Recreation Center maintains a three-pool complex, year-round gym, baseball and softball fields, and multiple lighted tennis courts.

Arts & Entertainment

Guntersville offers a variety of arts and entertainment options, including museums, theaters, and outdoor events. The Guntersville Museum features a large collection of art and artifacts and exhibits on the city’s history. The Whole Backstage Theatre is a community theater that produces plays and musicals throughout the year. Set on the shores of Lake Guntersville, Art on the Lake is among the most popular annual events and attracts talented makers from across the Southeast. Outdoor venues like City Harbor and Errol Allan Park regularly host concerts for the community to enjoy.

Transportation

Guntersville rests at the intersection of highways 431 and 79. It is 30 miles south of Huntsville and 70 miles northeast of Birmingham. Just north of the city is Guntersville Municipal Airport  – Joe Starnes Field, which has a paved 5,005 runway as well as a 5500’ x 200’ Seaplane runway and Dock Area.

Guntersville provides a variety of dining options with a focus on Southern and seafood-centric cuisine. Patrons can also choose between steakhouses, barbecue joints, breakfast favorites, and international fare. Some restaurants are situated on the waterfront and enjoy scenic lake views, while others are located downtown near popular attractions.

Residents and visitors can find boutique clothing, eclectic gifts, and handmade items at shops in historic downtown Guntersville. Bakers on Main is one such downtown shop that houses 25 retail shops and boutiques, a wine shop, cafe, and event space in a vintage brick building. City Harbor at Lake Guntersville offers 55,000 square feet of restaurants, entertainment, retail outlets, and more. Antique stores, specialty food stores, and tackle shops can be found throughout Guntersville.
