With a mix of historic neighborhoods and luxury lofts, downtown Huntsville offers urban living at its best. Families and professionals of all ages are taking advantage of this thriving area with its proximity to high-quality education and prominent employers.

Real Estate

Within this area, stunning traditional homes are found in the Twickenham, Old Town, and Five Points historic districts. Homes dating back to the 1800s present distinct and beautifully preserved architectures. Twickenham Square, an upscale, mixed-use development, offers city dwellers luxury apartments conveniently located to a Publix and popular restaurants. Front Row, an 11+-acre, mixed-use development, has plans to offer high-end apartments in the near future. To the southeast of this area is the Blossomwood community, where homeowners can find both historic homes and newer construction, all within close proximity to downtown Huntsville. As part of Blossomwood, there are several neighborhoods such as Mountain Brook, Montdale, Fagan Springs Estates, Briarcliff, Owens, Briarwood Estates, Monterrey, Daleview, and Mountain Springs.

Education

Elementary students can attend Monte Sano, Chapman, and Blossomwood elementary schools. Middle schools include Chapman Middle and Huntsville Junior High, while area high schools include Lee and Huntsville high schools. Several private schools and New Century Technology High School, a STEM magnet high school, are located close by. Offering higher education in the area are Alabama A&M University, Huntsville Bible College, and Drake State Community & Technical College.

Health & Wellness

The Huntsville Medical District is immediately adjacent to downtown and home to some of the region’s best medical facilities. The district includes Trinity Medical Center, Huntsville Hospital Medical Mall, Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children, Huntsville Hospital Physician Care, Blackwell Medical Tower, and UAB Medicine.

Arts & Entertainment

The Quigley entertainment district encompasses the Von Braun Center, Broadway Theatre League, and the Huntsville Museum of Art. The Weeden House Museum and Garden and EarlyWorks Children’s Museum are also popular attractions. A local favorite, the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra is the longest continuously operating professional orchestra in Alabama.

Outdoors & Parks

For recreation, residents and visitors have a lot to choose from. At the heart of downtown Huntsville is Big Spring International Park. Built around its namesake – Big Spring – the park offers plenty of space to relax and hosts numerous events throughout the year. Nearby Monte Sano Mountain is just a quick drive from downtown and provides sweeping views of the city. Also close by is the Land Trust of North Alabama’s Three Caves, which offers a unique mix of nature and entertainment, including the annual Three Caves Concert.

DINING

A number of the city’s most acclaimed fine dining and casual eateries call downtown Huntsville home. Also serving patrons are trendy bars and pubs, coffee roasters, bakeries, ice cream shops, and much more.

Shopping

Shoppers can enjoy local stores and boutiques at Clinton Row. A favorite is the Greene Street Market at Nativity, an open-air market for fresh locally grown or raised fruits, vegetables, meats, and other foods. Another must-visit is Harrison Brothers Hardware; established in 1897, today the store features local art along with Southern gourmet foods and other household goods. Just one mile from downtown Huntsville is the Lincoln Mill District, where a variety of innovative companies and specialty shops are stationed alongside restaurants, boutiques, and venue spaces.
