The arrival of September means that fall is just around the corner, and Huntsville has no shortage of exciting events and activities to kickstart the cozy season. With everything from moonlight markets to whiskey festivals, pet costume parades, fall fairs, and more, here is your guide to fun things to do throughout the month of September.

All month long 

Explore the layered and evolving meanings of “home” at The Huntsville Museum of Art’s Coming Home exhibition. Featuring a mix of paintings, photography, and mixed media pieces from artists LeXander Bryant, Jahni Moore, and Toyin Ojih Odutola, the exhibition inspires attendees to reflect on how memory, experience, and imagination shape our sense of belonging and place.

Clift Farm presents 1st Thursdays Art Walk at Village Green – an afternoon that’s designed to inspire local artists to display their talent. Guests are invited to grab dinner at Clift Farm or picnic at the Village Green and stroll through the one-of-a-kind local art show and display.

Get ready for an out-of-this-world experience in a cocktail glass at the Space & Rocket Center’s Cocktails & Cosmos at INTUITIVE Planetarium event. On select Fridays throughout September, attendees can sip on themed cocktails while enjoying weekly educational programs about Autumn Skies, Galaxy Collisions and Evolution, and Sounds of Space. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with presentations starting at 7 p.m.

Concerts on the Dock invites local, regional, and nationally renowned musicians to play at Lowe Mill A&E’s historic loading-dock-turned-stage. Inspired by western swing, country, bluegrass, jazz, and blues, the series will feature music by Billy Buchanan, Michael Goldsmith Band, Quantaphonics, and Tomas Gorrio.

Watch as The Rocket City takes on The Scenic City in Huntsville City FC vs Chattanooga at the Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium! As part of the stadium’s Hispanic Heritage Night, fans can also enjoy in-stadium entertainment, pre-match activities, and community celebrations to honor Hispanic culture and local residents.

Follow the lamplight to The Moonlight Market – “one of the best ways to experience Friday night in downtown Huntsville!” Every second Friday from now until October, the Downtown Square comes to life with more than 40 local artisan vendors, shoppers, and live music. Vendors open at 5:30 p.m. and close at 9 p.m.

September 11-13  

Presented by the North East Alabama Craftsmen’s Association, the Fall Craft Show features more than 100 local and regional makers. The free event is the perfect place to shop for fall-themed home décor and holiday lists, as well as discover new local crafters.

The Rocket City Cigar & Whiskey Festival is a luxurious experience of premium brands, live entertainment, and meaningful connections. Presented by The Legacy Leaf Cigars, guests will enjoy a luxury vendor market with rolled cigars, aged whiskey, food trucks, live music, and ample networking opportunities. This event is for adults 21 and up only. Tickets are available online.

September 17

Cool music, cold drinks, and good times await at the 805 After Five concert series! Every third Thursday from now until October, thousands will gather at Campus 805’s Butler Green Park for  a free concert, local food trucks, yard games, retail vendors, and more. September’s spotlight artist is Ripe with guest artist Pat Jamar.

The paw-fect way to celebrate fall awaits at the Huntsville Botanical Garden’s Pooches & PUPkins event! From 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cedar Glade and the Meadow at Lake Lonnie, guests and their four-legged friends are invited to don their favorite costumes and participate in the pooch parade and costume contest, as well as shop the pet-friendly vendor market for treats and goodies.

Rolling into Big Spring Park, the Downtown Food Truck Rallies are back! With a rotating lineup of fan-favorite food trucks and brand-new vendors serving everything from savory street eats to seasonal sweet treats, there is something to satisfy every craving!

It’s full STEAM ahead when the EarlyWorks Children’s Museum’s annual Tinkerfest hits the streets! Starting at 9 a.m. in the museum and spreading out and across the neighborhood onto Gates Avenue and historic Alabama Constitution Hall Park, the block party offers a day of discovery, curiosity, and creativity for kids and their families. Attendees can explore firsthand how things work through an array of educational exhibits, as well as opportunities to design gadgets, build things, learn about robotics, and watch artists bring their dreams and ideas to life.

September 19-20

For more than two decades, the Monte Sano Art Festival has been an exciting tradition for the North Alabama community. For $5 at the entrance, attendees can shop more than 140 local and regional artists representing an array of disciplines and techniques while enjoying local food trucks, live music, and taking in the views at Monte Sano State Park. Parking is $10 per car and all fees support the state park system.

September 20

Presented by Publix and produced by Revel Events, the 5th Annual CulturA Festival is a celebration of Hispanic culture, food, and music. From 12 to 7 p.m. at the Orion Amphitheater, the free, family-friendly event offers fun activities for all ages – including a DIY bouquet station, Huntsville Football Club kick wall, authentic eats representing Latin American countries, live music and cultural performances, a health and wellness village, and so much more!

September 24-27

The Rocket City Fair is back with its first-ever fall-themed event, The Rocket City Fall Fair! For $12, attendees of all ages will enjoy access to 30+ rides, games, and culinary attractions, as well as their fall fun village and petting zoo – and don’t forget to finish the night off with a vibrant firework show on Friday and Saturday.

September 26

Calling all road bikes, ebikes, tandems, recumbent bikes, trikes, mountain bikes, and trail bikes for the 42nd Annual All You Can Eat Century Bicycle Ride! Hosted by the Spring City Cycling Club, riders can choose between four routes that range between 39 and 100 miles and feature beautiful hills, valley scenery, and a few challenging climbs, and, of course, a warm, locally catered meal at the finish line. Registration is open on the club’s website.

September 25-27

An ultimate weekend of German traditions, carnival fun, and family memories await at the 29th Annual Oktoberfest at Redstone Arsenal Activity Field. Attendees can snack on authentic German treats like schnitzel, warm pretzels, and German Paulaner beer while enjoying carnival rides and games, as well as live music from two-time Grammy nominee Ted Lange and guest artist, Alpen Power Band. General admission is $15 while admission with unlimited rides is $25.

September 26

Supporting Wounded Warriors and Gold Star Families, the Project Giveback (PBG) 5K Aloha Run – Huntsville invites participants to run, walk, or roll for a good cause! The race event allows participants to allocate $10 of their registration fee to support homeless veterans and military families who have lost a loved one in Huntsville. Registration is open on PBG’s website.
